Generation Three- Pearflower: Chapter 7

“Would it make you feel any better if I told you I don’t see a single thing anywhere in the water?”

I was out with Maroon, at a location just out of town. He was leaving in just a few days for Egypt; something about having to find something there..
I was just sad that he was going away for an entire week.

We had been spending all of our time together the past few months, I kid you not. My hair had also been working its way slowly back into the cascading waves I’d so carelessly chopped off in high school. Maroon liked it that way, anyways.

Not really…Do you have to go?

“I’m sorry, love, but I do.”

You didn’t even invite me.. Right as I placed my hands back into their normal clasped position, and Maroon was gathering words, a catfish leaped from the water. It seemed to think that his hair was a delicious snack.

I jumped straight out of the water and as far from it as I could get- have I ever mentioned my distinct fear of slimy, disgusting creatures? After a small battle the catfish swam away; I can swear I saw a chunk of red hair in its mouth.

“Did it take some of my hair with it, Pear?!”

No, it didn’t…are you okay? Well, a girl has to lie sometimes…

“I’m fine.” Maroon’s hands fondled my cheeks gently. The expression of fear must have still been on my face because he changed the subject quickly.

“Hey, I’ve got lots of fireworks in the back of the car- let’s have a firework show!” he exclaimed. This probably won’t be good, I thought to myself.

The fireworks lit up the briskly darkening night sky, illuminating a cheering Maroon. Multicolored lights flickered in his eyes and I found myself lost in him as I had so often.

The mere cracking and exploding of the fireworks was too much for me to handle, though. Quickly, a headache began to take over my head and I grew nauseous. Just a wee bit nauseous.

“Look at that one, baby! It looks almost like- Pear?”

After the last of the fireworks went off Maroon came towards me. It was only then that I realized what position I was in- ears covered, bent down in the bushes.

“Are you okay? What’s wrong, babe?”

I don’t really feel all too well any more..

It had gotten too dark to comprehend anything I “said”, though, so I just shrugged it off. He put the tent up as best he could in what little light we received.

Morning swung around, smacking me in the face. When I woke up and Maroon wasn’t in the tent, I grabbed my clothes up from the ground; his had already been taken. I guess that’s a good thing.

“Hey, you scared me.”

I love you!

Pulling me into his arms, stroking my hair, he replied, “I love you too.” His skin was so warm, so amazingly touch-able; I could stand with him forever.

“Hey, listen, I have to go change. Be right back.”

There must have been a great frown plastered on my face, because when he came out concern nearly immediately clouded his emotions.

“What’s wrong?”

I don’t want you to go!

“I’ll only be gone a week…and I was going to wait to return but I think now would be a better time.”

Bending to one knee Maroon pulled a box from his pocket. It was small, square and black, it could have been anything.

“Will you marry me?”

Making no movement except extending my hand to him, a huge smile made its way onto my face. My mind screamed at me, Say yes! Say yes!

I enveloped him in a hug, knowing I would never let go. We stayed there for an eternity, it seemed. The love in the air was so thick you could breathe it, and that’s exactly what I was doing. I loved Maroon Frosting, and nothing would change that.

What an amazing husband-to-be!

****

A couple of days after he left to Egypt, I got very sick. The toilet bowl became my new best friend.

The third day of puking up anything and everything that my stomach held and brushing the residue away, I began to wonder. Was it some sort of flu, or a disease or something? Perhaps a very bad disease? Then it hit me.

Could I be pregnant?
